Swimming found the three founders of Swim Dem Crew. — Against the odds, Peigh, Natty and Emily spotted each-other in the pool and after a few swims together, they recognised they had something unique. For nearly ten years, I’ve been privileged to support Swim Dem as they forged the way for lesser represented communities to feel at home in the pool. In turn, this has led to collaborations with Speedo, Nike, Puma, Google and Channel 4.

It was an honour when Swim Dem approached me to help them to tell their story the way they wanted it told. For the first time, there would be no brands involved. No sponsorship or paid partnerships. No products to push. Nothing. Just Swim Dem, their community and their story.

‘Beyond the Blue’ is the first honest expression of their passion, creativity and infectious energy that has rippled out through the community and firmly placed them as opinion leaders in swim and youth culture. I was able to capture their story in film and stills as they intended it to be told. The result is a refreshingly honest and beautiful portrayal of the Swim Dem Crew.

Following the launch event of the stills and film, the film was selected by Motion Picture at the ICA as ‘Five Films Ahead of The Curve’.
